Amerique in a cafe in Half Moon Bay, California.
Editing interestsAmerique primarily edits articles related to California. He also has interests in Anthropology, Linguistics, Native American Studies and Information, but editing in these areas is too much like work for him. Current long-term projects include: developing the University of California, Santa Cruz, Inland Empire and associated articles towards FA status. To work out his POV and better proceed on developing University of California articles, he wrote a mini-essay regarding student support for athletics at various campuses, located here User:Amerique/UC Essay. Community interestsAmerique's primary interest in Wikipedia is on how participation in the dispute resolution process affects social and political conflict across editorial and user spaces. The development of cabals and the likewise production of trolls used to be all that interested him in this site, but he gradually came to view the larger game as pointless. Particularly after Academy Leader was blocked for "carry[ing] water for Wikipedia's critics." Have resumed mainspace contributions for the time being, as the Arbs seem to have voted not to self-destruct themselves here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#OrangeMarlin. However, I have no confidence in this current committee, and urge thoughtful participation from all Wikipedians concerned with civil dispute resolution process here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Arbitration_Committee. Cruelties always accompany this system; and when it is consistently carried out, they become atrocities of the most horrible kind in the eyes of any rational man. Nor should this occasion surprise, for the officer of a society does not feel justified in surrendering the interests of that society for the sake of mercy, as he might his own private interests. It is natural, therefore, that sympathy and fellowship should thus produce a most ruthless power." -Charles Peirce, The Fixation of Belief, 1877 [1] "It is an arduous work that is before you. Do not let your path deviate from the quiet and steadfast insistence on full opportunities for your powers." Franz Boaz, speaking at Atlanta University, 1933.[2] "You dig into yourself and the community to wage psychological warfare... you combat your own fears about beatings, shootings and possible mob violence... you organize, pound by pound, small bands of people ... you create a small striking force." Bob Moses 1963 SNCC organizer.[3] "There is a sure, one word solution to all the world's current problems: Atheism." Marshall Sahlins [4] Errata
